1ST JUNE 2025
Sunday June 1st we returned to the prestigious Warter Priory Estate, Nr Pocklington, it is a fantastic shooting estate and the club is privileged to be able to run on the ground by kind permission of the Healey Family and Head Keeper Frank Croft. Amy Wilcock welcomed us to the estate on behalf of the Healey Family and Frank Croft, we thank Amy for co-ordinating the diary to allow the club to run on the ground.
The Tests & Helpers
Our judges for the day Graham Slater, Wendy Glue, Darren Thompson and Daryl Boarder, made great use of the ground by setting tests which challenged the dogs, especially those unused to the hills and the distraction of game scent.
Whilst the competitors walked from test to test along the bottom of the valley on the track. The dogs and the helpers had to negotiate some very steep climbs up hills, the club thanks the helpers for their time and their stamina, helping at Warter is definitely not for the faint hearted. Alan B, Liz B, Nick M, Martin R, Pat P, Paul S and Paul B taking on the challenge in the morning and Liz B, Alan B, Simon P, Lucy E, Mia CH, Steve C and Carolyn B for covering the afternoon shift. Last but not least Sharon C who is becoming my right hand at competitions and Elaine O’B for all your help with the administration of the day.
These days could not run without helpers and this is the first time for a long time that Three Ridings has struggled to get enough people, and I climbed a hill with a bag full of dummies in the morning to ensure the test could run. It is important that everyone who competes gives a bit back by helping clubs on competition days, if people do not volunteer competitions will not run. As several of yesterdays helpers commented and they had learnt a lot by watching the dogs work, it is definitely one of the best ways to learn.
