The DOGS Critique by Linda Heron
Three Ridings Labrador Club Championship Show - 15th March 2025
Firstly I would like to thank the Club for asking me to step in. I wish Mr and Mrs ODonoghue all the best, I'm sure they had been looking forward to the appointment. It was lovely to be asked to judge with Linda. We last judged together many years ago, we agreed on all our joint decisions.
My next thank you goes to the fabulous and friendly stewards Pam and Charlotte, who very
kindly not only did the regular stewarding jobs with great efficiency, Charlotte also took photos of the placed dogs for me and sent them on this was very much appreciated.
The committee have found a lovely venue and everyone worked so hard to put on a good
show.. The delicious lunch was much appreciated.
Finally, a big thank you to all who entered. I was really pleased to have such a quality entry.
Several classes gave me some tough decisions. A few general observations, I had two or three dubious mouths and I noticed some very upright pasterns one dog was even knuckling over this, needs watching.
DOGS
BABY PUPPY (5-0 abs)
1st Hopkinson’s ROCHVALE HERCULES TO ROCHEBYwhat a sweetheart! Showing like a veteran, so very well schooled for his tender age, I loved his head and expression. He had
scope, just needing to slightly come up on his legs as they do at this age. Good neck into well laid shoulders, well bodied, fabulous tail shape. Pipped his brother to the top spot with his lovely feet.
Best Baby Puppy
2nd Hopkinson’s ROCHVALE PRINCE CHARMING TO ROCHEBY very similar comments
apply which now I have the names and breeding I can understand why!!
3rd Litherland’s OAKHOUSE ORANGUATAN
MINOR PUPPY (6-1 abs)
1st Hodge’s NAIKEN ISLAND HOPPING This well grown chocolate puppy has a lovely clean outline helped by his tight fitting coat. He has a good length of leg finished with well shaped feet. Correct front and rear angulation. A nicely balanced pup with a good topline which flows into a well set and carried tail. Moved well. Best Puppy Dog
2nd Harris’s WINSLEYWOOD WILFRED a nice young yellow another with a lovely clean
outline, kind head with good length of muzzle and dark pigment. He has a good length of leg.
Today he was difficult to settle on the move but when settled he was true coming and going.
3rd Lesley’s STEELEIGH I’M THE YOGI BEAR
PUPPY(4-1 abs)
1st Tulloch’s BINNAIG SEA THE STARS OVER TULLOCHMOHR a stronger type of youngster very well grown, he had a lovely line through the neck and shoulders, excellent ribs. He showed to advantage and on the move really strode out.
2nd Smith’s BINNAIG SEA BARNACLE ON FLYENPYG interesting to see these two are also
brothers. I liked the amount of hind angulation also the upper arm on this puppy, however, I felt on the day the winner was better in front pasterns and feet.
3rd Frostick, Allen & Hess’s ALLENIE CALLING THE SHOTS FOR MARLUKNEY
JUNIOR (8-1 abs)
1st Mclellen’s SARANDEN I’M ON FIRE well made yellow shown in lovely condition. Good
forechest, aided by correct front, well bodied and nicely boned. Correctly constructed
hindquarters. Moved to advantage

preferred his eye colour to the winner. Good reach of neck and good angulation at both
ends.
3rd Cain’s EXELBY WHAM BAM HANNABEE

3rd Edwards’ KIMBAJACK PRINCE PADDINGTON
LIMIT (16- 5 abs)
A very nice class.
1st Tulloch’s BINNAIG BONNACH FOR TULLOCHMOHR I really like this dog's head. He had the kindest of expressions helped by his brown eye. Ears were well set and carried which added to the picture. Well made and nicely boned. Slightly longer cast which is a help on the move, giving him reach and drive. He showed and handled so nicely. One I liked a lot.
2nd Finney’s CARPENNY KIPLING lovely type of dog, another with a clean well balanced
outline, strong well muscled hindquarters, good double coat with the correct feel to it.
